Objectives

  • Interpret fan and system curves to understand the operating point and performance of fan systems.
  • Understand pressures and pressure losses in a fan system.
  • Apply fan affinity laws to predict changes in airflow, pressure, and power resulting from speed or density changes.
  • Identify major centrifugal and axial fan types and applications for each.
  • Understand pressure losses in ducts and fittings and their impact on system performance.
  • Evaluate common fan control methods and compare their effects on airflow, pressure, and energy consumption.
  • Select properly rated fans using certified performance data while considering efficiency, power, and system requirements.
