Description
This module explores the mechanical consequences that arise when air movement systems are designed with non-laminar airflow or other system effects. By examining real-world industrial examples, learners will uncover the unforeseen mechanical failures and safety hazards that occur when design principles are ignored or fan limits are overlooked. The course also covers the impacts of temperature changes—from cold start to steady state—and explores how holding flow or pressure constant affects fan operation.
Instructors: Ryan Cassel, Adam Habegger, Justin Meyer

Objectives
- Identify the mechanical consequences and safety hazards associated with non-laminar airflow and system effects within complex duct configurations.
- Analyze real-world industrial scenarios to pinpoint how overlooked design principles lead to increased maintenance costs, underperformance, and mechanical failure.
- Evaluate the impact of operational variables, including temperature changes and constant flow or pressure constraints, on fans running in series or parallel.
